The Cost of Clinical Trials

Why are Funds Needed?

$7 million – Completion of two phase I clinical trials for primary prevention of ovarian cancer OR triple negative breast cancer (TNBC)

$13-20 mil – Completion of a small phase II trial for primary prevention of ovarian cancer OR TNBC


$50-100 mil – Completion of a multi-center phase III efficacy trial for primary prevention of either ovarian cancer or TNBC

Spending last year by the NCI's Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis was $332.7 million more than spending by the Division of Cancer Prevention.

What is Needed:

At least $332.7 million to the Division of Cancer Prevention to eliminate the treatment bias and make both equivalent and to provide that money for support of primary prevention clinical trials.
